PIONEER LEGACY: Chronicles of the Lower Skeena River Volume II
Includes more than 100 photos! The second volume documents the ending of that era and the beginning of another through stories of the early settlers, the laying of the first telegraph lines, the mail service and finally the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the greatest influence of all upon the opening and development of the Skeena River area. On the day the last spike was diven, a new age began. The book is dedicated to Mrs. Bennett, who passed away in April of this year at the age of 88. She went with the knowledge that her book would be published. Mrs. McRae worked with her on both books and certaily misses her and her help. This second volume of Pioneer Legacy will cover some of the riverboat landings, the telegraph line, mail service and the building of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. There are several stories of the Tomlinsons of the Holy City, once known as Meanskinsht, now Cedarvale. From the back of Volume II The Skeena is a grand river, a beautiful river, a dangerous river, and for centuries it has been humanity's highway from the northwest coast to the northern interior of what is now British Columbia. Pioneer Legacy celebrates this mighty waterway and pays tribute to the rugged individualsnative peoples, white settlers, and adverturers from all over the worldwho have travelled, explored, lived and died along its turbulent 350-mile length. Norma V. Bennett has unearthed fascinating rare archival documents and photographs, and coaxed stories out of some of the Skeena's early pioneers.
