Four vehicle accidents one one day - Nov 5, 2002 - icy conditions catch motorists by surprise.

The first call was 6:59 a.m. - a 50-year- old Kitimat man’s vehicle hit ice and rolled over near the airport hill on Hwy 37.

The second happened within the hour 7:56 a.m. - a 1994 Dodge pickup rolled over just south of the airport hill.

The third accident occurred less than a half hour later at 8:22 a.m.- a little closer to Terrace when a 1985 GMC pick-up crossed the centre line landing up in the ditch on the south side of Hwy 37.

The fourth occurred at 8:37 a.m. 41km east of Terrace near Little Oliver Creek. Although the vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck suffered major damage, 3 occupants thanks to the seat belts, only suffered minor injuries.

The message from the RCMP is to winterize vehicles, take extra caution on the roads especially in frosty mornings, and to keep wearing those seatbelts - they could save your lives.

Be careful out there.

Special Thanks to Terrace Firefighters Who made extensive use of the jaws of life to get victims out of vehicles in at least two of the incidents. .

Below is a reprint from one of our "Kermode Quickshots Feature" with some Terrace Fire and Rescue photos of one of the incidents.
