Riverboat Days Youth Soccer Challenge 2002 exceeded our expectations. And as an encore to last year's success, that's saying something. Last year said it was the best, with a rise in both the number of teams and attendance.
This year there were 36 teams in five divisions in the fray. Guadalajara, Mexico, was in attendance for the second year in a row; this year with two teams. The only disappointment was a missing Anchorage contingent. They have travelled to Terrace for a number of Riverboat Days challenges, and the lack of their bright red and white uniforms was a noticable deficit to the general theme of the tournament.
The most exciting competition during the weekend was an Under-10 Boys match between Mexico U-10s and Bulkley Valley. The game ended in a tie. The first shoot out of five shots each ended in a tie. Bulkley Valley managed a win in the second shoot out to win the game.
The hooting, hollering, and cheering dominated the field. The half-time break on the next pitch between Mexico and Kitimat, in fact, was extended to allow those teams and their fans to follow the suspense.

We apologize for the declining number of game photos as the divisions increase in age. Unfortunately both the photographer and camera battery were scraping the dregs of energy after visiting more than a dozen Riverboat Days events.
