LARRY CRAWFORD - BAND & WOODWIND

Mr. Crawford is an all-round musician whose career spans 40 years in Canada and the U.S. He has extensive experience in radio, television and studio work. As an orchestra member he travelled with Sammy Davis Jr., Doc Severensen, Rich Little, Liberace, Bob Hope, Sid Caesar, Phil Nimmons, Allan Thicke and Gordy Tapp. He has performed in Mexico, Guatemala, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Europe, and recorded at Capitol and Columbia records in Los Angeles.

Mr.Crawford recently wrote a comprehensive course in jazz improvisation for high school level and older, and has written several courses for woodwinds. He is sought after in the field of private teaching, music festival adjudication, as well as consultant/clinician.



DENNIS TUPMAN - BAND & BRASS

Mr. Tupman is a faculty advisor in Education, teaching part-time on the faculty of UBC. He holds a BEd and MED from UBC. Mr. Tupman has 14 years experience in all levels in Band, Choir and Orchestra and general music in Kitimat and Victoria school districts. He is a performer and instructor on clarinet and saxophone. Mr. Tupman is Past President BC Music Educators Association and a member of several art organizations and associations. He is Past District Principal of the Performing Arts for the Vancouver School Board and receiver of the Jessie Award and Frannie Award for his work in the arts.



CORLYNN HANNEY - CHORAL

Ms. Hanney's varied background spans 34 years in the music business in Canada and the U.S. For the past 11 years, she has taught studio vocal classes at Capilano College in which students explore a variety of vocal styles appropriate for recording situations in order to develop vocal flexibility and marketability. She got her start on the CBC children's show Let's Go and on the summer variety show Up,Up and Away.

She moved to Los Angeles and did session work for the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and The Tim Conway Show. From 1969 to 1971, Ms. Hanney toured Europe and North America with Leonard Cohen, and recorded the album Songs of Love and Hate with him. She also performed in L.A. and Las Vegas with the Jimmy Joyce Singers, backing such acts as Nancy Sinatra and the Muppets. She returned to Vancouver in the early 1970's, and did studio work and background vocals, including work on The Tom Jones Variety Show.

Throughout her career, Ms. Hanney has taught privately, and in addition, she teaches on referral from the Voice Clinic at Vancouver General Hospital. She is a member of the award-winning Phoenix Chamber Choir, and of Elektra, a noted women's choir with an international reputation.



MICHAEL KIM - PIANO

Canadian Pianist Michael Injae Kim began studies at age 11, and made his professional debut with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at age fifteen. He has since appeared with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall, Cincinnati Pops, BBC Scottish Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and in Canada with the symphonies of Toronto, Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. He continues to perform with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra each year for the past six seasons.

Michael held the Vladimir Horowitz scholarship while studying at The Juilliard School and in Canada, the prestigious Career Development Award from The Canada Council for the Arts. Dr. Kim performs extensively throughout all major cities and venues in Canada and the United States. Mr.Kim's debut recording for CBC's Musica Viva label was recently released. He is currently Assistant Professor of Piano at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.



JACQUELINE O'KELL - DANCE

Ms. O'Kell received her education in Dance at the Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre in Liverpool, England. She holds Associate degrees in Ballroom and Imperial Ballet, and a Licentiate degree and examiner's qualification in Modern Theatre Dance from that institution. Since 1992 she has been a Licentiate Member and Examiner with the Modern Dance Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (London, England).

Jacqueline O'Kell has worked for 16 years as a dance instructor and performer in Canada and in the UK. She has been active as a choreographer in St. Albert, Alberta, and has adjudicated at festivals in Edmonton, Courtenay, Fort St. John, and Terrace (1996).



LORRAINE REINHARDT - VOCAL & CHORAL

Lorraine Reinhardt is a graduate with distinction of the University of Saskatchewan Bachelor of Music program, where she studied with Dorothy Howard and Greta Clark. Since moving to Vancouver Ms. Reinhardt has studied with Arlene McIntyre and has participated in various workshops and masterclasses, most frequently sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Ms. Reinhardt is a past winner of the Provincial Senior Voice Class of the BC Kiwanis Festival.

Ms. Reinhardt is in her eleventh season with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, one of Canada's two professional choirs. She is a founding member of Elektra Women's Choir and has often been heard as soloist with these choirs. She has sung throughout Canada and on the CBC, as well as abroad. She is an oratorio soloist and recitalist throughout the Lower Mainland.

Ms. Reinhardt has been teaching privately for twenty years and has been on the voice faculty of the Music Department of Kwantlen University College in Langley since 1993. She is currently a member of NATS and is active in the Mainland BC chapter. Ms. Reinhardt has directed choirs of many descriptions from high school concert to Broadway musical chorus and church choirs of all ages and sizes. She is in demand to lead workshops on singing technique, church choir repertoire, and choral technique. She has adjudicated festivals throughout B.C.



SHEENA WHITE - SPEECH ARTS

Sheena White has been involved with Speech Arts and Drama for many years and currently provides private tuition in effective speaking, drama skills and accent reduction in Richmond and Vancouver.

Sheena holds Associate and Licentiate degrees in Speech and Drama from Trinity College, London, England. She also holds a certificate in Effective Speaking from Trinity College and a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) from UBC.

Ms. White was a classroom teacher for a number of years before she began her work as a private teacher of speech and drama skills. She has adjudicated Speech Arts classes at many festivals throughout the province and in Alberta -- a job she thoroughly enjoys.



GARTH WILLIAMS - STRINGS, GUITAR & CHORAL

Garth Williams has been involved in the musical scene of Vancouver for over forty years. He began his professional career as a violinist with the Vancouver Symphony.

Following a term with the VSO, Mr. Williams entered the teaching profession beginning a new music department at Carson Graham Secondary in North Vancouver. He also established the North Vancouver Strings Program. While he was District Head of Music for the Courtenay School District, he also established a string program there. Since returning to Vancouver in 1980 he has worked as a free-lance musician and private teacher.

Mr. Williams studied vocal pedagogy with Burton Kurth and Dr. Jacob Hamm. He has sung with the UBC Chamber Singers and has conducted numerous church choirs in the Lower Mainland, and currently sings in the renowned Phoenix Chamber Choir of Vancouver.

As an orchestral conductor, Mr. Williams has spent over twenty years with the Vancouver Youth Symphony and has served as Musical Director and Senior Conductor for the Delta Youth Orchestra. He has conducted Symphony Pacifica and members of the Vancouver Symphony. He is the founder and Musical Director of the Summer Pops Youth Orchestra for the past 13 years.

Garth Williams holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of British Columbia.



NEIL YORKE-SLADER - BAND

Neil is Principal at Brookfield High School in Ottawa. He has composed numerous works at various levels for jazz ensemble, several of which are available through UNC Jazz Press. He taught music at the elementary and secondary levels for 17 years. He is widely sought as a jazz clinician and adjudicator. Neil was the 1999 recipient of the Ottawa International Jazz Festival's Achievement Award. He received the 1998 City of Nepean's Distinguished Service Award for Education, and the 1995 Distinguished Award for Arts and Culture.

Other honours include the 1991 IAJE Award for Outstanding Service to Jazz Education, and the 1998 Ottawa- Carleton District School Board's Director's Citation. Under his direction, the nationally-acclaimed Nepean All- City Jazz Band has won Gold Awards at Musicfest Canada's National Finals for 12 consecutive years. He is considered one of the leading Canadian authorities on the teaching of stage band fundamentals and rehearsal techniques.
