Rain, rain, go away!
Heavy rain last night caused some minor problems this morning. City crews were out cleaning leaves and debris away from storm sewer drains to try to prevent huge puddles from forming. And it looks like there may be more to come.
Environment Canada issued a heavy rain warning at 10 a.m. this morning, predicting somewhere between 50 and 70 millimetres (2 to 2.75 inches) of rain and so far today we haven't had anywhere near that yet.Tomorrow, Environment Canada says we can expect mixed rain and snow. Wednesday, Hallowe'en, they're predicting rain tapering to a few showers, which will turn to rain again on Thursday. Friday, they say, will be a re-run of Thursday. The only bright note we see in the forecast, is a toasty warm low of only 5ºC overnight Wednesday which should please trick or treaters.
The rain may cause a problem for the Centennial Lions and their annual Spookarama. Water was as deep as eight inches in the north end of the Christy Park parking lot, and there was puddling on the grass and the sod was soft.
Even without the difficulty of wading to and from your parked car, hundreds of tiny feet could cause serious damage to the soccer pitch on the east side of the park and the event may have to be moved.
